Spotify Apple Music Amazon Music Brasilis Guitar Duo About Brasilis Guitar Duo is formed by musicians Edson Lopes (6 strings) and Guilherme Sparrapan (7 strings). Edson has a renowned career in the world of classical guitar, being a reference for the 6-string guitar. Guilherme started in music participating in choro music gatherings and later graduated in Conducting at the University of São Paulo. The union of these two instruments and musicians aims to create new sounds for acclaimed repertoires, both from the classical and popular music universes. To achieve this, the duo always produces original arrangements and transcriptions. In their first album, "O violão bem temperado" (The Well-Tempered Guitar), Edson and Guilherme perform several works by Johann Sebastian Bach, including pieces from "The Well-Tempered Clavier" and the famous Toccata and Fugue in BWV 565. The repertoire also includes arrangements of works by early choro composers: Chiquinha Gonzaga, Ernesto Nazareth, Henrique Alves de Mesquita. In Bach's pieces, the duo explores new sonority riches through their guitar work. Many works have been transposed (for instance, the Toccata and Fugue is performed in A minor instead of D minor, and the Prelude I from "The Well-Tempered Clavier" is in A major instead of C major). This adaptation translates the music for guitars while maintaining its original intent and revealing new colors to the listener. The choro repertoire follows a similar approach, with the additional element that all arrangements maintain a contrapuntal style reminiscent of Bach. The duo consider the selected composers and works as great representatives of Brazil's cultural richness, and their interpretation unveils beauties sometimes forgotten over time. São exemplos de elementos estruturais a forma, melodia, harmonia, rítmica. Graduated in Conducting from the University of São Paulo, Guilherme Sparrapan began his musical career studying popular choro guitar and classical guitar. At a young age, he became a member of the Regional Cordas Vivas, with which he recorded two live CDs, playing the 7-string guitar. Also at the same time, he studied Theory and Perception at the Carlos Gomes Conservatory in Campinas. In the choral area, he sang in the Gilberto Mendes Coral (Valinhos), Collegium Musicum (São Paulo), Audi Coelum (São Paulo), as well as being assistant conductor of the Harmony Choirs (Valinhos) and Oficina Coral (Campinas). He had singing lessons and guidance with important singers, such as Francisco Campos, Adriana Giarola and Marília Vargas. While studying Music (Bachelor of Conducting) at UNICAMP, he was Assistant Conductor and Archivist of the Youth Symphony of Campinas. In 2005, he joined the music course at ECA-USP, under the guidance of Maestro and Composer, Aylton Escobar. Participated in Orchestral Conducting courses at the 26th and 28th Music Festivals of Londrina, Choir Conducting Workshop at the Tom Jobim Center for Musical Studies (currently EMESP), 7th Music Festival in the Mountains of Poços de Caldas, 25th Music Workshop in Curitiba and 44th Campos do Jordão Winter Festival, taking classes with Marin Alsop(USA), Celso Antunes(Brazil), Daisuke Soga(Japan), Oswaldo Ferreira(Portugal), Werner Pfaff(Germany), among others. ​ For two and a half years he was Assistant Conductor of the USP Chamber Orchestra, OCAM, being guided by Maestro Gil Jardim. During this period, he participated in the Música & Vida project, writing arrangements for the realization of several didactic presentations for children in pediatric hospitals in the capital of São Paulo. ​ From 2013 to 2015, he worked as Technician in Musical Transcriptions of the Artistic Groups of Cubatão, under the guidance of Maestro Roberto Farias, performing transcriptions and arrangements for the most varied formations. As a guitarist, he was awarded the VI Nabor Pires Camargo Award, as arranger and interpreter; received an honorable mention in the 15th and first place in the 18th Nascente Award, popular music category. ​ Among his artistic works, the duo with the flutist Toninho Carrasqueira, the trio Trinca Brasil, with Toninho Carrasqueira and Edmilson Capelupi, the Brasilis Guitar Duo, with the guitarist Edson Lopes, the Duo Opus Brasileiro with the pianist Milena Lopes and the Abayomi Quartet. ​ The eclectic background and great dedication to music make Guilherme Sparrapan a very versatile musician, composing, producing arrangements, working as an instrumentalist, researcher, educator, conductor and orchestrator.

full bio Photos Guilherme Sparrapan is an eclectic musician. He began his musical life playing the 7 string guitar in "rodas de choro". He holds a degree in Conducting from USP, having as advisors the Maestro and Composer Aylton Escobar and the Maestro Gil Jardim. In 2017 he graduated in Classical Guitar, at the Tatuí Conservatory, having been guided by Prof. Edson Lopes. He participated in the most important classical music festivals in Brazil, giving the opportunity to meet renowned musicians, such as Marin Alsop(USA), Celso Antunes(Brazil), Daisuke Soga(Japan), Oswaldo Ferreira(Portugal), Werner Pfaff(Germany), among others.
